Former Packers Tight End made a special play for Brett Favre
Former Packers tight end Tyrone Davis died Oct. 2nd, 2022, according to an obituary statement by the Jeffress Funeral Home. He was 50 years old. The cause of death was not included in the obituary. It did give information about his career:
Tyrone attended Halifax County High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1990. After high school, Tyrone continued his education and football career at Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, Virginia. In 1991, Tyrone continued his career at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia as a wide receiver where he currently holds the UVA record for most career touchdown catches (28). Tyrone was selected in the fourth-round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, and also played for the Green Bay Packers until his retirement. In 2012, Tyrone was inducted into the Halifax County-South Boston Sports Hall of Fame.
A former Packers teammate, offensive tackle Earl Dotson, commented on Davis’ death via a Facebook post, according to TMZ.
“This is difficult to post,” Dotson wrote. “Rest in paradise teammate. This good man Tyrone Davis fought beside me on the NFL Green Bay Packers for years. Brother forever.”
Davis played for the Packers from 1997-2002. Davis was on the team that made Super Bowl XXXII, but he did not play in the game. He had 780 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns during his time with the Packers. One touchdown was memorable.
Davis made a special play for then-quarterback Brett Favre. According to the NFL, Davis caught Favre’s 200th career touchdown pass during the 1998 Packers season. That’s a pretty cool piece of history Davis had with the Packers.
