Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert is one of the most unique and down-to-earth people in football. He previously released a statement that, even though he had been assigned to the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks, he would not play in that league. He cited family reasons for that decision. Last night, Benkert livestreamed and commented on the Thursday Night Football game with Tom Grossi. On that broadcast, Benkert revealed that he had also turned down a tryout with another NFL team.
Kurt Benkert Said “No” to the Minnesota Vikings
On the broadcast, Benkert told Grossi that he had turned down an invitation to workout for the Minnesota Vikings.

Interestingly, Tom Grossi was also the one who Benkert first revealed his workout to the Chicago Bears to back in September.

What Is Kurt Benkert Doing Now?
On Wednesday, Benkert revealed on Twitter that he had turned down an opportunity with an NFL team. He did not say which one it was at the time, though we now know it was the Vikings.
Today was the first time I’ve ever said no to an NFL opportunity & I couldn’t be more conflicted about it.
I felt like I owed it to the girls to have some normalcy in our life, especially throughout the end of the year – but I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t a really hard day.

As he stated in his Tweet, Benkert is spending time with his wife and young daughter. Before he was signed (and eventually released) by the San Francisco 49ers this season, he had done some advising work with various firms. He is also a professional gamer with several endorsement deals.
It sure would be cool to see Kurt Benkert back on an NFL team. He is genuinely one of the best people around the sport.
That being said, I sure am glad he turned down the Vikings.
