Former Packers Player Works Out with Jets Ahead of Week Six Matchup

The Green Bay Packers will look to get back in the win column in their Week Six matchup with the New York Jets. It seems as if the Jets may be looking for a little inside help as they have worked out former Packers defensive player Innis Gaines this week.

The #Jets worked out 4 defensive backs per the transaction wire:

    • Innis Gaines
    • Troy Pride
    • J.R. Reed
    • James Wiggins

Gaines appeared in one game for the Packers last season. Green Bay had originally signed Gaines as an undrafted free agent and assigned him to their practice squad. Gaines was a real feel-good story in Green Bay, having cracked the NFL after two knee surgeries. During his rehab, he had worked as a DoorDash driver. In an interview with Sports Illustrated last season, Gaines had said:

“Besides rehabbing, I would work out and do DoorDash to make money, make ends meet. Because you get your own schedule, basically. You work when you want to work, so I worked out, then I’d get time to do DoorDash, do a couple hours of that and then do a couple hours in the evening and then hang out with my family and stuff; try make ends meet. So, that was perfect, really, the way you make your own hours. That was fun.”

As a safety, Gaines faced an uphill battle to make the Packers 53-man roster. His progress was slowed by a nagging hamstring injury that kept him out of camp. The Packers released him at the end of August this year. He was later signed back with the Packers on injured reserve. On September 9, the Packers reached an injury settlement with Gaines and released him again. This made it possible for him to sign on with another team and play this season.

Perhaps it will be with the Jets.
