The Green Bay Packers have a hole in their defensive coaching staff. Defensive Backs coach Jerry Gray accepted a position with the Atlanta Falcons. The Packers have a plethora of talent at the cornerback positions with Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, and Eric Stokes (when he comes back from injury). The safety position is up in the air. Darnell Savage will be back for his fifth-year option in 2023, however, Rudy Ford and Adrian Amos will be free agents this off-season. The Packers will need to either bring them back or make a move in free agency/draft to address that position. Nonetheless, the Packers will need an experienced defensive backs coach to help with their secondary. As it turns out, there may be one available who turns out to be a Packers legend.
Packers Legend Al Harris Emerges As Candidate For Defensive Backs Coach

Al Harris was just inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame two years ago. Harris is currently the Dallas Cowboys assistant defensive backs coach under Mike McCarthy. Before that he was in Kansas City under Andy Reid. Harris, after he learned he was going into the Packers Hall of Fame, called Green Bay “a special place.’’ He would likely love to return and the Packers job appears to be a promotion from the job he has in Dallas.
Cowboys’ current defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn, has been interviewing for Head Coaching vacancies. If he finds one, it is possible that he either takes Harris with him or the prospective new Cowboys DC brings his own defensive backs coach. That could Al Harris looking for a new team. Harris has been coaching for nine years in the NFL. He started out as an intern with the Dolphins under another familiar face, Joe Philbin in 2012. He took that success and landed a job as the Chiefs’ defensive backs coach from 2013-2018. The Chiefs secondary finished Top-10 in the league in interceptions in all but one of his six seasons leading the unit. Additionally, Harris played a huge role in Trevon Diggs incredible season in 2021. That year he led the NFL with 11 interceptions after leading the team his rookie year with three. The Cowboys had another Top-5 unit this year in 2022.
