Former Packers Linebacker was the best on a bad Bears defense
Many Green Bay Packers fans are upset with Joe Barry on Monday. The Packers’ defense made mistakes in their Week 8 loss to the Buffalo Bills. As bad as they might be, they’re not as bad as the Chicago Bears. The Bears gave up 42 points on defense to the Dallas Cowboys in their 49-29 defeat. One former Packers linebacker was the team’s best defender on the afternoon.
Joe Thomas received the highest grade by Pro Football Focus for the Bears in Week 8 with a 74.7 overall rating. Thomas played for the Packers in two stints. He was a member of the team’s practice squad in 2014. He re-signed with the Packers in 2015 and stayed through the 2017 season.
The Bears signed Thomas to a one-year deal for the 2022 season. He was elevated to the practice squad in September after the Bears sustained a pair of injuries at linebacker. Thomas has 14 total tackles on the season. With reports coming out Monday afternoon that the Bears were trading All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith to the Baltimore Ravens, the former Packers player may see more action with the Bears in the next couple of months.
