The Green Bay Packers have some work to do this offseason. After an 8-9 finish and missing the playoffs, there will certainly be some changes on the roster. What kind of changes and to what extent the Packers will “rebuild” mode are yet to be seen. One thing is for certain: Aaron Rodgers will not be a part of any rebuild. He said so himself on The Pat McAfee Show last week. In the days that followed his comments, Packers fans and NFL analysts have debated how the Packers should approach their future with Rodgers. Indeed, the answer will depend greatly on what they choose to do with the rest of their roster. On his show “Nine 2 Noon” on 97.3 The Game, former Packers full back John Kuhn had a dose of reality for his listeners.
John Kuhn Gives Packers Fans a Dose of Reality
When discussing the current state of the Packers’ roster and what kind of changes they can possibly make, Kuhn said the following:
“The Packers need a rebuild. They are not close to the eight teams we saw in the division round. How close are the Packers to those eight teams?”
Kuhn’s co-host, Wisconsin Badgers basketball legend Brian Butch, answered:
“I don’t think they are very close, and this is the reason why. The more we have watched, can we finally get you to say that the Packers needed Davante Adams? That they were not a better team? Because that is the area they need to improve on.”
Kuhn continued later:
“I don’t think a rebuild needs to include Aaron Rodgers. The Packers have gotten further away from the divisional round this year than what they were last year. Last year, I felt they had a team that could compete in the division round. This year, I feel like they’ve gotten further away from that. I think they are probably almost in rebuild mode, or at least revamp the roster mode.”
In his interview with Pat McAfee, Aaron Rodgers mentioned five players that he would want Green Bay to bring back if he decides to play in 2023: Randall Cobb, Robert Tonyan, Marcedes Lewis, David Bakhtiari, and Allen Lazard. For his part, Lazard has already stated that the Detroit Lions game was probably his last in a Packers’ uniform.
It is certainly a complicated situation. Brian Gutekunst and the front office have their work cut out for them this offseason.
