Former Milwaukee Brewers Infielder DFA’d by New York Yankees

Monday sure was an eventful day for former Milwaukee Brewers players. Keston Hiura, the team’s first round pick (ninth overall) in 2017, was designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies, marking yet another failed stint in the Majors for him. Additionally, former Brewers pitcher Jason Alexander was called up by the Houston Astros after posting a 1.74 ERA for their Triple-A team.

Earlier this season, Alexander returned to the Majors with the Athletics, marking his first callup to the Big Leagues since Milwaukee called him up in 2022.

Unfortunately, though, Hiura was not the only former Brewers player who was designated for assignment.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, former Brewers infielder Pablo Reyes was designated for assignment by the New York Yankees on Monday:

“The Yankees announced that infielder/outfielder Pablo Reyes has been designated for assignment. That opens an active roster spot for designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton to be reinstated from the 60-day injured list, a move that was reported earlier today. The club’s 40-man roster count stays at 39.”

In 24 games with the Yankees this season, Reyes was hitting just .194/.242/.226 with no home runs and two RBI.

Reyes played for Milwaukee from 2021-2022, appearing in 58 games and hitting .258/.330/.344 with a home run and three RBI during that time.

Prior to signing with the Brewers, he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, but missed the 2020 COVID-shortened season due to a PED suspension.

After leaving Milwaukee, Reyes played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, and Yankees.

He has career averages of .245/.305/.342. If Reyes does not get claimed by any team, he can either accept the Yankees’ minor league assignment or become a free agent.
