The Green Bay Packers went through plenty of changes over the course of the past offseason as the fans had to say goodbye to a couple of names while also welcoming fresh faces that bring something new to a squad that defied expectations last season.
Some mainstays like David Bakhtiari were released during the spring, signaling to the fans that the team is serious about making wholesale changes that would vastly improve the team. Meanwhile, some of the free-agency signings the team brought over made major contributions during the team’s Week 2 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
While Green Bay is moving forward with their squad, some of the team’s former players are still without a squad to call home. These athletes still want to compete in the NFL and are waiting for a team interested in acquiring their services.
One former Packer may return to the NFC North after being connected with one of the NFC’s top competitors.
Former Green Bay Packers S Rudy Ford linked to the Detroit Lions
Heavy’s Dave Holcomb wrote about the Lions’ need for cover on the secondary, with Bleacher Report suggesting their rivals’ former player being the perfect fit for their needs:
Bleacher Report’s NFL scouting department argued the Lions should make a move to bolster their defense. Bleacher Report named safety Rudy Ford, who played last season for the Green Bay Packers, the player the Lions should “add now.”
“Ifeatu Melifonwu has been banged up to begin the campaign, and Kerby Joseph missed Wednesday’s practice with a hamstring injury,” Bleacher Report’s staff wrote. “So it might be smart for the Lions to add another safety to the roster or practice squad just in case.
“Rudy Ford would be a good option since he has experience lining up at free and strong safety and knows the NFC North well after spending the last couple of years in Green Bay.”
Ford had a productive two years with the Packers, accumulating 78 solo tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, nine pass deflections, and five interceptions for 117 yards.
While he didn’t work out with Green Bay, maybe spending time with Dan Campbell and his Lions would turn his career around.
