A former Green Bay Packers running back and Super Bowl champion bailed out a person suspected of shooting a Staten Island detective back in January of 2022. Ryan Grant, who played for the Packers from 2007-2012 is reportedly close with the alleged shooter. The New York Post was the first to report on Grant’s connection to the case.
Former Green Bay Packers Running Back Ryan Grant Pays Nearly $500,000 for His Friend’s Bail
According to The New York Post:
“Nelson Pizarro, 40, was charged with shooting Detective Dominick Libretti during a drug bust in Staten Island in January 2022.
“Pizarro was sprung 11 months after the shooting when ex-Packers RB Ryan Grant – a standout at Notre Dame who made about $20 million over the course of his NFL career – ponied up most of the $500,000 that secured bail, sources said.
“The football player and Pizarro were “close friends,” but the connection between them wasn’t clear, police sources have said. Grant was raised in Rockland County and Pizarro on Staten Island.”
A further reading of the article in The Post details how New York and Staten Island police are not happy that Pizarro is free and working his job as a livery driver, a job that allows him to drive all over the city even though he is on house arrest.
To be clear, Ryan Grant has not done anything illegal. He was not involved in the shooting of Detective Libretti in any way. His only connection is that he paid most of the $500,000 bail money of the suspected shooter, someone he is apparently friends with.
The Post had no further details on how Grant and the suspect knew each other.
