In 2017 the Milwaukee Brewers drafted right-handed pitcher Dylan File. He was selected in the 21st round out of Dixie State. Prior to the minor league season being cancelled in 2020, he had worked his way up to the Double-A level. Eventually, he was placed on the Brewers 40-man roster. Unfortunately, he never made his MLB debut before being outrighted this past May. Now, upon conclusion of the 2022 baseball season, he has been released by the Brewers and will pursue an opportunity in the Korea Baseball Organization.
Very cool update. Hearing that @dylan_file was released by #Brewers in order to allow him to take advantage of an opportunity in the KBO (Korea). Makes sense now. Congrats and enjoy the adventure, Dylan! https://t.co/qpxTlezve7

What might have led to File electing to play in the KBO?
After File’s breakout 2019 season, he spent some time at the Brewers alternative training site in 2020. During the 2021 minor league season he sustained an elbow injury. He made just nine starts at the Triple-A level and had a 5.27 ERA.
Most recently in 2022, he again pitched at the Triple-A level. He made 19 starts and had seven appearances working in relief. All together he threw 114 innings, had a 4.57 ERA, and recorded one hold. On November 15, he was released by the Brewers.
File could have remained under club control through the 2023 season. However, reports are saying that he was released by the Brewers in order to pursue an opportunity in the KBO. It is not uncommon for players to spend a few seasons overseas in order to rejuvenate their career. Hopefully this will be the case for File and we wish him the best of luck.
