Mark Reynolds, the one-time first baseman of the Milwaukee Brewers, has decided to call it a career. He made his announcement via an interview on Sirius XM Radio late last week.
Ever since Prince Fielder left the Brewers following the 2012 season, the first base position as been a sort of revolving door. In their attempts to fill the void left by Prince, the Brewers tried Corey Hart, Yuniesky Betencourt, Alex Gonzalez, and Mat Gamel at first in 2013. When all of those experiments failed to produce results, the team brought in Mark Reynolds in 2014.
In his lone season with the Brewers, Reynolds hit .196/.287/.394 with 22 home runs and 45 RBI’s. He also struck out 122 times in 130 games.
Mark Reynolds is one of the best examples of feast or famine hitters. He ends his career with 298 home runs and 1,927 strike outs. His best season was with Arizona in 2009. That season, Reynolds hit .260/.349/.543 with 44 home runs and 102 RBI’s. Unfortunately, he also set the single-season strikeout record that year with 223. In fact, he led his league in strikeouts four straight times from 2008-2011.
In addition to playing for the Diamondbacks and Brewers, Reynolds also played for the Orioles, Indians, Yankees, Cardinals, Nationals, and Rockies.
