A former Wisconsin Badgers‘ forward remains under investigation by the NCAA after a notable gambling investigation concluded this afternoon.
Elijah Gray, a former two-star Fordham commitment, transferred to Temple last season and played in 25 games for the team. Gray averaged just below 20 minutes per game last season before transferring to Wisconsin this off-season. The forward was dismissed from the program just days before the start of the season under mysterious circumstances, which was later connected to an ongoing gambling investigation.
Former Temple Guard Hysier Miller has NCAA Investigation Closed Following Dozens of Opened Cases

After months of investigations, former Temple Owls’ guard Hysier Miller has been deemed permanently ineligible after 42 parlay bets were discovered. Initially, Miller cooperated with the NCAA and stated that he “did not remember” if any bets placed were against his own team. The bet slips revealed that Miller had bet against the Owls three times during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.
Miller transferred to Virginia Tech last season but was dismissed before playing in a game with the program. The guard had originally been placed under investigation due to point shaving allegations after unusual betting activity occurred ahead of a game against UAB.
Following the original reports, multiple other programs dismissed players due to “events preceding” the enrollment of different individuals. The dismissals appear to be similar in nature but there are currently no reports that indicate all the ongoing investigations are connected.
One player who remains under investigation in Elijah Gray, the former Fordham and Temple forward who transferred to the Badgers this off-season. Gray was expected to be a rotational forward off of the bench for the Badgers but was dismissed from the program shortly before the season tipped off. Early in November Gray was revealed to be connected to an ongoing investigation and multiple outlets were unable to reach the forward who had been radio silent since the news broke.
Other Players Remain Under Investigation Including Former Badgers’ Forward Gray

For the Badgers, a potentially harmful situation may have been avoided as the NCAA announced that the investigations into betting violations would continue. Players from Western Michigan, Dayton, and Eastern Kentucky were also held out of competition ahead of the season due to investigations that had been opened.
Gray was among the players affected and had been notably absent from the Wisconsin exhibition games before his dismissal. Gray is still under investigation for improper betting violations, but the specifics regarding his betting activity is unknown.
The forward could make a return for a final year of play should the investigation prove to find no evidence of any violations which seems unlikely at this point. A possible return would also have to be made elsewhere as the Badgers’ staff already started life without Gray.
Previously the NCAA ruled 14 players were ineligible due to betting violations from the past year after opening roughly 30 cases. All the cases remain ongoing despite the news surrounding Miller as the exact scope and nature of all of the violations are unknown. Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the situation surrounding Miller is that no evidence of point shaving was found.
