The Minnesota Twins are signing former Brewers catcher Victor Caratini for two years and $14 million, pending a physical per MLB.com’s Matthew Leach. After spending six of his first seven seasons in the NL Central, first in Chicago and then Milwaukee, Caratini migrated to the American League in 2024 with the Astros. His free-agency deal with the Twins means that the Puerto Rican native will be staying there for now following the most successful stretch of his career in Houston.
Caratini’s career year in Houston catches Twins’ attention
The switch-hitting backstop arrived in Milwaukee via trade in 2022, garnering 540 plate appearances in 157 games over two seasons. As a a Brewer, Caratini hit 16 homers, drove in 59, and compiled a 1.2 WAR while slashing .224/.312/.359. The Brewers let him go in free agency after the 2023 campaign.
Before his stint in Houston, Caratini had not had much success at the plate since 2019 with the Cubs, but for the Astros he supplied solid production in a platoon role. Last season he notched career-highs in long balls (12) and RBIs (46) in 386 trips to the plate (also a career high). In 2024 he recorded a career-best 111 OPS+, significantly better than his all-time mark of 90.

Caratini, 32, earned most of his at-bats versus right-handers, a role he could fill in Minnesota in a time share with fellow catcher Ryan Jeffers, who is much better against southpaws. Caratini batted .268/.327/.399 versus righties in 2025 and has a career OPS 24 points higher (.698 to .674) against them.
Now playing for his fifth team (Caratini also spent a season with the Padres), he is set to make the most money of his career as a Twin. His prior contract with the Astros was for two years, $12 million.
A nine-year veteran, Caratini has 58 career home runs, 247 RBIs, a 4.5 WAR and .692 OPS in 720 games.
