Evaluating Colin Cowherd’s Absurd Prediction about the NFC North

Colin Cowherd has made quite a career out of saying outlandish, bold, and some (me) might say stupid things. For instance, it was not long ago that he claimed the Packers were trying to be bad on purpose to get back at Aaron Rodgers for last offseason. Cowherd’s latest “bold” claim concern the Packers’ division rival Minnesota Vikings.

Colin Cowherd Predicts the Vikings Will Double Their Win Total

Last month, Colin Cowherd stated that he believes the Minnesota Vikings will double the win total from 2021. This change, in large part, has to do with the firing of Coach Zimmer and the hiring of Kevin O’Connell.

The Vikings won eight games in 2021. Doubling their win total would give them 16 wins and an easy number one seed in the NFC.

    Evaluating Cowherd’s Claim

As a Packers fan, it is easy to say that the Minnesota Vikings are going to be terrible. However, such a claim would be inaccurate. They do have Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen at wide receiver. Delvin Cook is one of the most dynamic running backs in the NFL and Kirk Cousins is an adequate (but overpaid) quarterback.

Last year, the Vikings went 8-9 in what turned out to be a disappointing season for them. They fired Zimmer and hired O’Connell, which may help improve their offense. They also signed for Green Bay Packers edge rusher Za’Darius Smith. Will they be better in 2022? It is probable.

However, 16 wins? That is laughably absurd! Granted, they do have a relatively easy schedule with games against the Jets, Giants, and two against each of the Lions and Bears. However, they also have two games against the Packers in addition to tilts against the Cowboys, Colts, Bills, and Patriots.

Perhaps the Vikings can improve to 10 or 11 or even 12 wins; but 16 is just insane.
