A new survey reveals coaches are ‘fascinated’ with what Wisconsin Football is doing with the offense
The 2023 season will be a new era of Wisconsin football.
The program opted to take a big swing and land former Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell, ushering in that era with a lot of excitement. But it’s not just Fickell that has fans and media excited about the future of the program. It’s the staff he’s built at Wisconsin in his short period of time.
Fickell brought over several new faces to the Wisconsin football program including new offensive coordinator Phil Longo. The former North Carolina coordinator will bring in the Air Raid offense to Madison and that has everyone excited.
In a recent article on ESPN, Adam Rittenberg spoke to coaches and media members about some predictions for the 2023 season. And Wisconsin football was mentioned with a focus on the offense:
Despite Leonhard’s departure, the defensive structure shouldn’t change much under Fickell and coordinator Mike Tressel, who coached in the Big Ten from 2007 to 2019 at Michigan State. But coaches are fascinated to see the offense under Longo, who ran quarterback-centric systems at North Carolina, Ole Miss and other stops. Fickell also brought over Gino Guidugli, his offensive playcaller at Cincinnati, but as passing game coordinator/tight ends coach.
“It’s going to be interesting, that’s for sure,” a Big Ten coach said. “Is it going to be [Longo’s] offense or Gino’s?”
Wisconsin football traditionally has not been known as a passing attack offense. But things are changing in Madison and with three new quarterbacks, an offensive coordinator that likes to air it out and Fickell here, this is an exciting time.
It just all has to work out…
