There is a new era beginning for the Green Bay Packers.

Ed Policy arrives as the Packers’ new CEO, replacing Mark Murphy, which could usher in some uncertainty over the immediate futures of general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur.

However, there is much optimism about Policy’s stewardship of the franchise and his goals for the Packers, moving forward.

Policy, the son of former long-time San Francisco 49ers President Carmen Policy, has a big fan in current 49ers general manager Jed York.

“He’s a perfect fit for Green Bay,” York said in an interview with ESPN earlier this year. “I love how the organization works — where generally you’re bringing people up from the inside and you’re raising the next generation of talent — and you see it in Ed. He put in his time, and he’s been a great lieutenant for Mark and clearly was the right person for the job.”

Under Murphy, the Packers have achieved sustained success and almost seamlessly transitioned from quarterbacks Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers, and ultimately Jordan Love, emerging as a model franchise when it comes to consistently elite quarterback play.

Now, as Policy looks to lift the Packers back into legitimate Super Bowl contention, York believes that his history in and around the game set him up for success in Green Bay.

“When you look at his father, who was one of the best executives in NFL history, you can see how that’s helped shape Ed,” York said. “Ed is a very different personality than his dad. He is so calm, so level-headed, so bright.
