The Milwaukee Brewers have a reputation for getting the most out of pitchers, no matter how long or short they are with the organization. In 2019, pitchers Jordan Lyles and Drew Pomeranz were with the team for a few months after being acquired at the trade deadline. After excelling with the Crew, they both signed modest deals in free agency that winter.
Contract wise, Drew Pomeranz signed a four year, $34 million deal with the San Diego Padres and Jordan Lyles two years, $16 million with the Texas Rangers. Unfortunately, things have not worked out well for either pitcher since their tenure with the Brewers, but recently it was announced that Pomeranz has signed with the Seattle Mariners.
Drew Pomeranz statistics with the Milwaukee Brewers
In 2019, Drew Pomeranz was acquired by the Brewers from the San Francisco Giants with the cost being a top prospect by the name of Maurcio Dubon. Milwaukee ended up getting excellent production from Pomeranz as through 26.1 innings he posted a 2.45 ERA, collected 12 holds, and had two saves. Dubon was eventually traded to the Houston Astros in 2022, where he now has become a super utility player in which last year he played every position except pitcher and catcher.
Injuries plagued Drew Pomeranz after the 2020 season
After signing with the San Diego Padres, Drew Pomeranz managed to throw just 44.1 big league innings throughout the span of his contract with the last of those innings being tossed in 2021. Shoulder, elbow, and forearm injuries plagued him in which the forearm issue ultimately required surgery. In 2024, he spent time in three different organizations that included a brief stint on the Giants big league roster, but he was designated for assignment before he was put in a game.
Drew Pomeranz has signed a contract with the Seattle Mariners
Heading into the 2025 season, 35 year old Drew Pomeranz will begin in the Seattle Mariners organization as he signed a minor league contract with them. It’s a low risk deal for the Mariners in which they will be hoping that the veteran pitcher can return to form and earn his way onto their big league roster.
