De’Vondre Campbell has turned into one of the leaders on this Packers team in a short time. Earning first-team All-Pro honors last year was a testament to what he means to this team on the field. Campbell has also had an impact off of the field. He has turned into one of the vocal leaders on this team. Yesterday, Rashan Gary suffered a brutal knee injury. De’Vondre Campbell had some things to say to the NFL after the diagnosis was made public.
Packers’ De’Vondre Campbell Calls Out NFL Over Rashan Gary:
This is two weeks in a row we’ve had players get injured on turf fields. I think it’s time y’all take some of the money y’all make off us and invest in grass fields for every team around the league. The turf is literally like concrete it has no give when you plant @NFL

This isn’t even close to the first time players have called out the league over the turf that some stadiums have. In fact, Campbell hurt his knee last week on turf in Buffalo. Seahawks’ Head Coach Pete Carroll says NFL needs to take a longer, harder look again this offseason at artificial-turf fields. He says they’ve got to scrutinize the studies done on turf fields “to see who pays for them.” Above all, league has to do right by players, he says. Earlier this season when Giants’ WR Sterling Shepard tore his ACL, RB Saquon Barkely voiced similar frustration. Barkley was asked to share his opinion on the turf vs. grass debate. Barkley acknowledged that the playing surface is out of his control but did say he no longer likes turf. In fact, that was a common refrain from the veterans when Barkley was a rookie.

Nothing new here. Astro turf, turf, whatever you call it is nothing more than plastic carpet over hard earth. It makes a cost effective way to have esthetic pleasing fields primarily in dome stadiums as well as those in cold winter climates. It has been used decades. The bad side is it has been the cause to numerous injuries over the years. It even fostered an injury label, Turf Toe. Concussions were the last big injury concern. It is high time to bring the carpet over a parking lot to the forefront.
