Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan was a major piece to the offense in 2020. He caught nearly everything thrown to him, as he had 52 receptions on 59 targets. To go along with that, he had 536 receiving yards, and a franchise-record (for tight ends) 11 touchdowns. However, the 2021 season didn’t go as well. Prior to tearing his ACL halfway through the season, he had only accumulated 18 receptions for 204 yards and two touchdowns. The Packers figure that a healthy Robert Tonyan could impact the offense again. Yesterday some enlightening news was shed on his status by reporter David Lombardi:
David Lombardi’s post about Robert Tonyan:

Given the timeframe of when Tonyan tore his ACL, it is very encouraging to see him running. It is also major that he is expected to play in Week 1. Additionally, attending a Tight End U speaks volumes about his current condition.
What will Robert Tonyan’s role be in 2022?
Early indications show that the only limitations Tonyan will have will be those he imposes on himself. In other words, if he doesn’t play well, he will see less time. However, if he performs like his 2020 self, he could very well be a vocal point of this offense. With all of the major changes in the passing game this off-season, the Packers are surely looking for guys to step up. In March, Robert Tonyan signed a one-year deal with the Packers worth up to $5.5M. He is not only attempting to revitalize his career after a disappointing 2021 season but also get paid. We should see the very best out of Robert Tonian for the 2022 NFL season.
