Davante Adams Sounds Off On Packers Fans Comparing Stats, Fans Retaliate

Davante Adams clearly isn’t happy 3 weeks into the season.  His Raiders are at an NFL worst, 0-3 start.  For the most part, Adams has been held in check since week one.  After having 141 yards in week one, he’s accumulated just 48 in weeks two and three combined.  After week one, ESPN put up an infamous graphic of the Packers’ wide receiver stats compared to Davante Adams’.   Looked a little something like this:

5615CC56 38B4 42CB B64F 63AE9F7C5518Needless to say, the media has been comparing receiving stats ever since.  During weeks two and three Allen Lazard, Romeo Doubs, Sammy Watkins, and Randall Cobb have all accumulated more receiving yards than Davante Adams. With all of the attention surrounding these statistical comparisons, Davante Adams had something to say.

“Green Bay people” is what really set some fans off.  The media, ESPN, Sports Center, etc… are the ones who compared stats the very first week.  This comment by Adams makes it seem like “Green Bay people” started this trend, which is unequivocally false.  The depicted graphic above shows ESPN comparing stats after the first game of the season.  Not “Green Bay people.”  Needless to say, those “Green Bay people” definitely had something to say about this statement.  Twitter was full of responses,  here are just a few:

Davante sound so insensitive because that was all of the media’s work https://t.co/hilPAXUa1m

??? Only because it was plastered at every break in action in our face how he had more yards than our receivers week 1. Don’t really get the bitterness when it’s been crickets the last two weeks when it comes to his stats lol https://t.co/AYVhrkLsr3

I definitely don’t think there should be animosity between Packers fans and Davante Adams.  For eight years there was nothing but love and admiration.  Even with the local media and beat writers there was the utmost respect.  Davante Adams was unanimously selected as the 2021 Tom Mulhern Stand-Up Guy Award recipient by the Green Bay chapter of the Professional Football Writers of America.

Adams was also the first Packers player to be a unanimous choice and the first three-time recipient of the award. He’s also the first to be honored in back-to-back seasons for having best helped reporters covering the team to do their jobs effectively.  This may be a rough patch, but love should always remain between Packers fans and Tae.
