It is no secret that Davante Adams chose to play with Las Vegas Raiders over Green Bay. Details continue to emerge about his departure from Green Bay. We have learned that Green Bay offered more than the Las Vegas Raiders. We also learned that negotiations had been ongoing for quite some time. Green Bay did everything they could to keep #17 in town. Therefore Davante Adams revealed today that Aaron Rodgers’ uncertainty played a role in his departure.

“…I’ve got aspirations of doing really big things and being remembered,” Adams told reporters in Las Vegas. “…It just wasn’t really a point in my career that I was willing to sacrifice Aaron Rodgers not being there after a year or two. So my decision was to be here [Las Vegas] and he respected that.”
Those are pretty shocking and eye-opening comments from the star wide receiver. Davante Adams seemed to have a pretty good idea that Rodgers wouldn’t be there for the entirety of his next contract. However, Adams didn’t want to risk a major drop off in quarterback play, which could impact his own career.
Was Davante Adams Right For This?
Davante Adams, willing to uproot his career because of who was throwing him the ball, has multiple different levels to it. Can one understand that Davante Adams wouldn’t want to go from a hall of fame quarterback to one that has started one game in his entire career after one (possibly two) seasons? Certainly. As Packers fans we may not like it, but the logic is there. However, on the other hand Davante Adams had a chance to go down as the greatest receiver in Green Bay Packers history. Aaron Rodgers said himself that he thought Adams could go down in the Packers history books one day.
What does this say about Jordan Love?
Per Vic Tafur of the Athletic, Davante Adams said he likes backup Jordan Love, but not knowing how long Aaron Rodgers was going to be with the Packers was a big factor in decision to push for trade to the Raiders. Many fans will react to Adams’ comments, insinuating that Jordan Love isn’t good enough to be his QB. Above all, It is important to remember that we have no idea what Love is capable of yet, and if you were to compare him to an 8-year starter (Derek Carr), he’s just not going to stack up (yet).
