It is hard to argue against the love that Milwaukee Bucks fans have for Damian Lillard but he might become unpopular all over Wisconsin for his American football opinion.
Wisconsin saw some of their top players get traded to Las Vegas in the last few seasons and Lillard, he himself a Raiders fan, has his eyes on another Packer.
Lillard reposted on his Instagram story a post made by an NFL rumor page discussing how Jaire Alexander’s time with the Packers could be over soon.
The post reads in its caption:
While internal talks about Jaire Alexander’s future with the Packers haven’t surfaced yet, a major debate is brewing about what Green Bay should do with the 28-year-old cornerback. It’s trending that the Packers will release him, absorbing $19.1M in dead cap space. Alexander has only played 34 games over the past four seasons, but when he’s on the field, the Packers’ defense holds opposing quarterbacks to a 10% lower completion rate (61% vs. 71%).
Damian Lillard’s post about Jaire Alexander sparks intrigue
Lillard is not the first to endorse trading away Alexander.
Alexander is one of the main guys in the Packers squad when healthy since arriving there in 2018.
The 18th overall pick already won Second-team All-Pro (2020, 2022) two times and was named to the Pro Bowl (2020, 2022) twice.
Alexander hasn’t been playing a lot this season. He will not be able to contribute in the playoffs either after he was shut down for the rest of the season to recover from his knee injury.
The Packers’ other cornerbacks are making a good account of themselves while he is out, specifically Carrington Valentine.
GM Brian Gutekunst already shut down trade rumors centered on their no. 1 cornerback but where there is smoke, there’s a fire, they said.
