The Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers are set to face off in the wild card round of the NFC playoffs. The Cowboys are coming off a strong season finishing 12-5 and winning the NFC East. The Packers are feeling great about the future of their organization after making the playoffs with Jordan Love’s first full year under center.
Entering the season, the Cowboys certainly had Super Bowl aspirations. Quarterback Dak Prescott spoke to that ahead of their matchup against Green Bay.
Dallas Cowboys Dak Prescott Had One Message Ahead Of The Green Bay Packers Coming To Town
According to Timm Hamm of Cowboys Country:
Prescott was approached by television reporters after the win over Washington and asked why he wasn’t wearing a “Dallas Cowboys NFC East Champions” hat or shirt.
Prescott replied, “I want something better.”
Prescott’s message? Winning the East isn’t good enough. His eyes are on a bigger prize.
The Cowboys have advanced to the Divisional Round of the playoffs just five times since their last Super Bowl win after the 1995 season – and lost each time.
Since Prescott joined the Cowboys as a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Dallas has made the playoffs just four times before this season, losing twice in the Wild Card round and twice in the Divisional Round.
The Packers Stand In The Way Of Mike McCarthy Possibly Winning Another Ring
2023 marked the third year in a row that the Cowboys finished the season 12-5. All three were led by head coach Mike McCarthy. However, in 2021 and 2022 the Cowboys were bounced from the playoffs in the wild card round and divisional round respectively.
While Dallas fans have been happy with their regular season performances, their lack of success In the playoffs has McCarthy and the rest of the Cowboys feeling the pressure.
McCarthy’s old team is the first team he needs to concur if they want to get over the hump. The Packers are coming off three straight wins that were all necessary to get into the post-season. Jordan Love had a remarkable first season with Green Bay finishing with 36 total touchdowns (32 passing, 4 rushing), over 4,100 yards through the air, and just 11 interceptions.
It also should be noted that the Packers are 5-0 in AT&T Stadium (including their Super Bowl XLV win).
