One of the big questions heading into this Packers’ season was the future of Elgton Jenkins. Many wondered if this would be his last season in a Packers uniform. All of the drama was squashed when the Packers signed Jenkins to a 4 year $68 million extension. We now have the contract details for Elgton Jenkins.
Contract Details For Elgton Jenkins
The Packers save a little money this season with the extension. The next year of the contract is relatively cheap as well with only $2.238 million being added. This will allow the Packers to sign some other players or add talent in free agency. This number jumps a little bit more in 2024 when the new money is $9.7 million. The new money goes up to $12.8 million and $20 million in 2025 and 2026b respectively. There are some incentives tied into the contract that would reduce the number but a lot of them require him to play tackle.
Final Year
The final year is the most interesting bit from the contract details for Elgton Jenkins. The $20 million in new money is very high. If the Packers released him after the 2025 season, the Packers would save $20 million and only take a dead cap hit of $4.8 million. What this points to is that this is really a 3-year $48 million contract. Jenkins would have to be playing out of his mind for the Packers to keep him on the roster for the 2026 season.
The contract details for Elgton Jenkins make sense. The Packers are in win-now mode and this contract can help the Packers win now. If the Packers do release Jenkins, he is still 30 years old and can sign another contract or take his money and retire. Getting this contract done was a huge win for the Packers.
