“When you’re sort of committed to football, this is what it looks like.”
Once again, Colin Cowherd spent a full 4-minute monologue, laying into Matt Lafleur, Aaron Rodgers, and the Green Bay Packer franchise.
Cowherd is an all-time great Packer’s hater who has had brainless take after brainless take.
But, for all his horrible hot takes, Cowherd delivers some insights worth listening to. For instance, I wrote a few weeks ago about Colin’s support of the Packers signing Odell Beckham Jr. Still, a fantastic idea in my humble opinion.
And today, the host of The Herd delivered yet another insightful analysis of where the Packers find themselves early in the season.
Skip to watch the full clip below, or read the highlights here;
- “Somebody allowed Matt LaFleur into the VIP club and he’s never paid his dues.”
Matt Lafleur’s 42-13 regular season (44-16 career) record can’t be appreciated without context. The Packers have made the playoffs, and their star quarterback was a repeat MVP.
But where have the Super Bowls been? Where has the development of new MVP-level players? He hasn’t earned the privileges a Packers Coach should receive after years of deep, gritty team leadership.
Perhaps this is where Lafleur earns his stipes, though.
- “Aaron Rodgers, for a team that is desperate for leadership, continues to be treated like American football royalty…. Yet the last two offseasons he’s been manifesting his ‘destiny’, wavering about retirement and the ‘meaning’ of life, and THIS is what it looks like…. They (the Jets) didn’t spend the entire offseason wavering on retirement and manifesting their destiny with some ethereal word salad, whatever that stuff means.”
The team is devoid of any serious leadership. On the field, off the field, and especially in the off-season.
- “Now they need grit, toughness, and ingenuity, and I don’t think it’s in their DNA. They’re so desperate for leadership. They need a quarterback who talks about ‘WE’ and ‘US’ , not wavering on retirement. You’re looking at a completely disconnected franchise starving for leadership. It doesn’t sound like Aaron Rodgers is all in, and this is what it looks like.”
With so many weekly distractions that cause drama and uncertainty, it’s no wonder the players don’t look fully committed on the field!

Though, he has some good points, I don’t think the choice of ODB is a step to have a leader for anything. Beckum is for Beckum. And, no one else. I agree that he would make a good player for the roster. But, he is not an exact replacement for Adams and thinking he is the second coming is foolishness. There is some baggage with Beckum which might be handled. Now as far as LaFluer, he should evaluate all the weak points of his team and see where the problems lie. Again, I think it’s time to get a new Defensive Coordinator. His habit of hanging on way too long is a shortcoming. He needs to remember, an organization is only as strong as it’s weakest member. And, that the NFL can stand for Not For Long if not careful.
