The Cincinnati Reds are having a bullpen day to begin their series against the Seattle Mariners. Injuries and a COVID outbreak has left them thin in several positions, with starting pitchers being one of them. Tejay Antone is scheduled to start their first game, but after that it will be an all hands on deck type approach. This may be why the Reds selected the contract of Michael Mariot prior to the game starting.

Michael Mariot had his contracted selected by the Cincinnati Reds prior to a scheduled bullpen day against the Seattle Mariners.
Earlier this year Michael Mariot had his contract selected by the Reds, but he did not get into a game and was designated for assignment a day after. The 34 year old has not appeared in a major league game since 2016 but that may change during Monday’s game against the Mariners.
Prior to being called up to the big leagues for the second time this year by the Reds Michael Mariot was most recently pitching in Triple-A Louisville. His statistics consist of 37.2 innings pitched, nine appearances, 6.93 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP.
Due to the state of the Reds pitching staff it is likely that if Michael Mariot is utilized in the game against the Mariners he could be replaced by someone new afterwards in order to keep fresh arms in the big leagues.
