The Cincinnati Reds are expected to get their 2023 opening day starter back from injury as soon as Sunday, August 20. Hunter Greene, the flame throwing right-hander, has been on the IL since June 19 due to a hip issue. He now is expected back against the Toronto Blue Jays and will have no restrictions.

Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene expected back on Sunday, August 20 against the Toronto Blue Jays (MLB News).
Prior to being placed on the IL Hunter Greene had a 3.93 ERA over his first 14 starts. He got off to a bit of a slow start this year but over his final five starts before the injury he had a 2.97 ERA and pitched at least six innings four times.
The goal is that Greene will be able to pick right up where he left off once returning to the Reds. His pitch count was built back up while in rehab assignment. During his last Triple-A start he threw 83 pitches and averaged 97.4 mph with his fastball.
His return, along with the expected return of Nick Lodolo, is one reason why the Reds did not acquire starting pitching at this year’s trade deadline. There are now six weeks left in the season and Cincinnati is a few games back in the NL Central division and the Wild Card is within reach.
