Any time there is a coaching change in college football, a flurry of recruits often changes their decision. The coach is a huge reason why players come to a program. If they are going to have to be under that coach for at least three years, players have to like the coach on some level. New Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell is known for his recruiting prowess. Many Cincinnati recruits are de-committing after Luke Fickell was hired by Wisconsin.

Cincinnati Players De-Committing After Luke Fickell Leaves
So far, a couple of defensive backs and a wide receiver have already de-committed. All of those players are 3-star recruits. 4-star linebacker Trevor Carter has opened up his commitment as well after Luke Fickell left for Wisconsin. This puts a whole batch of recruits back on the market that Fickell has a previous relationship with. At this point, none of them have expressed a desire to come to the Badgers but it definitely could happen. As I mentioned above, the coach is often a huge reason why recruits come to a program. If the coach is who they fell in love with, Fickell might be able to sway them to come to Madison.
How Much Can Fickell Improve The 2023 Class?
It isn’t just players from Cincinnati that are de-committing. Other coaching hires are causing recruits to leave and the transfer portal already has some great talent in it. There is plenty of opportunity for Fickell to grab a couple of new recruits for the 2023 class. While many viewed this coaching decision as a great long-term answer, don’t discount the impact he could have in the short term for Wisconsin.
It will be interesting to see if any of these Cincinnati recruits make their way to Madison because of Luke Fickell. Regardless, the future looks bright for the Wisconsin Badgers football program.
