The Milwaukee Brewers reportedly have acquired starting pitcher Frankie Montas from their division rival Cincinnati Reds. Following the trade Montas spoke with members of the Reds media and responded to the news.
Frankie Montas was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Milwaukee Brewers for outfielder Joey Wiemer and pitcher Jakob Junis.
31 year old Frankie Montas, who has a 5.01 2024 ERA and a 4.05 career ERA, was acquired by the Brewers for two MLB caliber players in Joey Wiemer and Jakob Junis. Both Montas and Junis have mutual options for the 2025 season. Montas 2025 option is worth $20 million with a $2 million buyout and Junis $8 million with a $3 million buyout.
Three takeaways from Frankie Montas press conference following the trade news.
After news broke of this trade Montas had some interesting takes during a press conference with members of the Reds media. He talked about how despite having been traded previously leaving this clubhouse and this type of team was tough. Additionally he didn’t rule out a return to Cincinnati next year. The last takeaway was that he was excited to join a team in first place that still believes in him.

Franke Montas will be the 17th different starting pitcher used by the Milwaukee Brewers this season.
Once Frankie Montas joins the Brewers and makes a start for them he will be the 17th different starting pitcher used this season. This will tie a franchise record last set by the Seattle Pilots. The MLB trade deadline is July 30 so it’s possible that Milwaukee still adds another pitcher, but for now it is looking like he will be the pitcher to tie the franchise record.
