It may be the offseason for the Brewers, but Christian Yelich has been keeping busy with some new hobbies. If the MLB lockout continues, it seems like Yelich has a backup career as a TikTok influencer waiting for him – and so does his namesake.
Earlier this week, Milwaukee’s star outfielder created an account on the viral video app TikTok, only to find that the username @christianyelich was already taken. Yelich owns that handle for both his Instagram and Twitter accounts. However, the TikTok account is a fan account that dates back to April 2019. The real Yelich currently creates content under the username @christian.yelich and already has 51k followers- almost 13 times as many as @christianyelich.
Christian Yelich’s very first post on the app was a lighthearted callout at his fanpage. This has sparked a banter between the two accounts and has crossed over onto Yelich’s Twitter as well.
In a video, @christianyelich – whose name is listed as Adrianna Wagner – states that she “accidentally stole Christian Yelich’s username back in freshman year”. Prior to Yelich creating his own TikTok account, her page was home to fancams and highlight videos dedicated to the MVP. In the last week, Wagner has released four videos joking about the username fiasco. Yelich’s account has two of the like, joking that Wagner will have to take his place in the Brewers’ lineup this year if she wants his username.
It will be interesting to see how long this bit between @christianyelich and @christian.yelich plays out. Will Wagner get to keep her TikTok username? Or will Yelich end up with the coveted handle? We’ll have to wait and see!
