Prior to his back issues this season, Christian Yelich had played in nine games and collected ten hits. It was a promising start to the season for the 2018 MVP and two-time batting title champion. This had many fans relieved given his 2020 struggles, but then came the stints on the injured list.

After multiple stints on the IL due to low back issues, Christian Yelich missed nearly a month of baseball.  Initially, his production slowed upon his return, but now it appears that his bat is starting to heat up.

After a successful three game minor league assignment, Yelich was activated to the major league roster on May 18th. In his first eight game backs, Yelich immediately was in a 2-23 slump and fans were starting to get concerned given his struggles in the 2020 season.

It wasn’t until a road series against the Nationals that he began to collect more hits.  That series began on May 29th and in the nine game since then, he has collected seven hits in twenty-eight at bats with three being home runs.

Most recently, over the four game series against the Diamondbacks, he hit two home runs and contributed four RBIs. From a timing standpoint he looked a lot more in sync at the plate and several of his outs were near miss extra base hits.

The other goods news besides Christian Yelich not only returning to form offensively is that he appears healthy as well.

Since returning from the IL, Yelich has appeared in every game. May 29th was a scheduled rest day, but he did appear as a pinch hitter in that game. Since then, Yelich has started all seven games the team has played.

Yelich’s past few games have included stolen bases and diving catches in the outfield, leading one to think that Yelich is as healthy as he can be from a low back standpoint.

All of this is great news for Brewer fans. Yelich is the motor behind the clubs offense and a lot of the teams success depends upon him performing to expectations and playing every day.

It appears that this is currently trending in the right direction.
