The Green Bay Packers had a scary moment in their 34-0 victory over the New Orleans Saints at Lambeau Field on Monday night.
Third-year wide receiver Christian Watson suffered a knee injury in the second quarter when Saints defensive backs Alontae Taylor and Kool-Aid McKinstry landed on Watson’s left side. Per ESPN‘s Rob Demovsky, Matt LaFleur said the team was concerned for Watson after the game. Watson said he had to “shut” himself down after trying to return in the third quarter.

“It definitely hurt right away, but it felt like it was good enough to go back in, so I went back in and it was feeling all right,” Watson said. “But it was just kind of lingering a little bit and I just couldn’t play the type of football I wanted to play, so I just had to shut it down.”

Following LaFleur and Watson’s comments Monday night, there was a worry Green Bay would be without one of their best targets for the start of the playoffs.

Per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, LaFleur confirmed on Tuesday that Watson suffered a knee bruise, and Green Bay hopes he can play against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
“Matt LaFleur says the Packers got good news on Christian Watson,” Pelissero posted on X. “Just a knee bruise. Could potentially play Sunday in Minnesota.”

Fortunately for the Packers, Watson will return this season, and likely before the end of the regular season.
Watson is the Packers’ second-leading receiver in 2024. The No. 34 pick in the 2022 draft has recorded 29 receptions for 620 yards and two touchdowns this season. The 25-year-old receiver is averaging an incredible 21.4 yards per reception.
The Packers will play the Vikings on Sunday before finishing the regular season against the Chicago Bears on Jan. 5.
Watson had one target and no receptions in the Vikings’ 31-29 win over the Packers in Week 4.
