New Green Bay Packers’ linebacker Christian Kirksey has not played a down of football for the Packers. He hasn’t practiced with the team either. In fact, he hasn’t even visited Green Bay yet. However, the new Packer is making friends quickly in Green Bay in the best way possible.
Amid the COVID-19 epidemic and its unfortunate effects on communities everywhere, Kirksey turned his attention to the homeless people of Green Bay. According to a blog post by St. John’s Homeless Shelter in Green Bay, Kirksey reached out to them and asked what they needed. In the ensuing days, Kirksey supplied St. John’s with the following:
- 20 packs of toilet paper
- 20 packs of napkins
- 540 bowls
- 1,000 spoons, forks, and cups
- 1,200 plates
- 50 masks
St. John’s actually has two locations in Green Bay. Kirksey ensured that 30 hot pizzas were delivered to each location to provide volunteers and visitors to the shelter with a hot meal.
Last month, Kirksey signed a two-year $13 million contract with the Packers. Due to previous injuries, only $4 million of his contract is guaranteed. Kirksey has said in interviews that he plans on bringing leadership and determination to the team. If he can contribute to the locker room in such a way as he is to the community, the Packers will be in fantastic shape.
