A former All-Star with the Milwaukee Brewers has signed with the Chicago White Sox on a minor league deal. This catcher will provide depth to the organization and does include an invite to big league camp.
Former Milwaukee Brewers catcher signs with the Chicago White Sox
Heading to the Chicago White Sox is catcher Omar Narvaez. He spent the 2020-2022 seasons with the Brewers, was an All-Star in 2021, and was initially acquired via trade with the Seattle Mariners in a deal that involved RHP Adam Hill and cash. After his Brewers tenure, Narvaez signed a two year, $15 million deal with the New York Mets, but injury and poor performance ultimately resulted in him being released last summer.
Omar Narvaez will be a depth option with the Chicago White Sox
The rebuilding White Sox will lean upon Omar Narvaez as a depth option in 2025. They currently have Korey Lee and Matt Thaiss on the 40-man roster, but also previously traded for elite catching prospect Edgar Quero earlier this off-season. Should a catcher go down, it’s likely that the White Sox would call up Narvaez to fill in.
Omar Narvaez statistics since leaving the Milwaukee Brewers
After hitting .233/.318/.350 across three seasons with the Brewers, Omar Narvaez’s numbers dipped to .192/.254/.259 with the New York Mets. It’s possible the once talented offensive catcher could rebound in 2025, but in order to stick around in the big leagues again he will have to return to form defensively as well.
