The Milwaukee Brewers have been spoiled at the catcher position for over the last decade. Jonathan Lucroy was regularly behind the dish from 2010-2016, a Manny Pina and Martin Maldonado combination followed, Yasmani Grandal was around for one year, Omar Narvaez was an All-Star in 2021, and most recently William Contreras has been the everyday catcher.
Of these former Brewers players Maldonado, Grandal, and Narvaez are all still active in the league. Maldonado is with the Chicago White Sox, Grandal the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Narvaez was just released from the New York Mets in early June. Recently one of them was in the news for their fan base throwing All-Star votes their way despite dreadful offensive numbers.
Chicago White Sox fans are comically throwing All-Star votes on former Milwaukee Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado.
On X the Barstool Sports account pointed out some fan responses to a Chicago White Sox post that was made promoting All-Star votes despite having lost 13 games in a row at that time. White Sox fans trolled the idea of voting for any of their players by pitching the idea that they should all vote for Martin Maldonado. At the time of that post Maldonado had a .076 batting average (over 100 plate appearances).
The White Sox just lost their 13th game in a row, tying the franchise record.
Their fans are responding by writing in Martin Maldonado (hitting .076) on the All Star game vote. What a move. #VoteMaldy
