A former Chicago Bears All-Pro wide receiver had several chances to play against Aaron Rodgers. Now he says he wants to unretire from the NFL to join Rodgers with the New York Jets. Rodgers has attracted several former Packers players to sign with the Jets this offseason. But not as many former Bears have signed up. But Brandon Marshall isn’t any typical former Bears player.

Former Chicago Bears WR wants to play with Aaron Rodgers

Marshall, who is a known critic of former Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and the entire Bears organization, spoke on the I Am Athlete Podcast recently. Marshall said he would be willing to come out of retirement to play with Rodgers as a tight end. He made an audition tape on air for how he would fit on the Jets team by playing at a high level:
“We’re going to win a Super Bowl. I’m going to be able to contribute at a high level, and this is what I’m going to be able to give you: 45 catches throughout the year, 20-to-30 plays a game. I’m going to give you eight touchdowns scoring.”

Brandon Marshall is willing to come out of retirement and play TE for Aaron Rodgers.

Those numbers would be impressive for most tight ends in the league, but especially so for a 39-year-old ex-wide receiver who has not played in the league since 2018. Marshall does have some ties to the Jets organization. He played with the team during the 2015-2016 seasons after his three-year stint with the Bears.
Marshall is unlikely to become a Jets TE
It’s doubtful Marshall will join the Jets, even if he wanted to mentally, for a few reasons. (Marshall seems to be half-joking as he’s doing his mock audition to the Jets organization.) One, the Jets are set at tight end with Tyler Conklin and C.J. Uzomah. Secondly, as Marshall admits in the video, his body might not be able to absorb NFL hits at tight end. Tight end is a highly physical position for an athlete in their prime, and Marshall is way past his physical peak.
But Marshall seems to be high on the Jets with Rodgers. We’ll see if other like-minded athletes hitch themselves to the Rodgers bandwagon this season to try and win that Super Bowl.
