The Boston Celtics leveled up their frontcourt significantly with their summer acquisition of Kristaps Porzingis. They did lose a major piece in Marcus Smart, but one could argue that overall, Boston got better with the addition of the 7-foot-3 power forward.
The Celtics could not be done, though. James Piercey of NBA Analysis Network believes that they could further solidify their frontcourt with the addition of All-Star big man Jarrett Allen from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Celtics Shore Up Frontcourt with Jarrett Allen
Piercey imagines a scenario wherein the Celtics get to pair Porzingis with Allen in a completely new-look frontcourt. Boston, however, will need to give up a massive haul (again) to make this deal come to fruition.
Here are the details of the trade proposal:
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: F/C Al Horford, G Payton Pritchard, F Sam Hauser, 2025 First-Round Pick (BOS)
Boston Celtics Receive: C Jarrett Allen
The Celtics seem to put a lot of value in size, and the addition of 6-foot-11 Jarrett Allen will give them an advantage in this area in all five positions. Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum will fill up Boston’s extremely lengthy starting lineup alongside Porzingis and Allen.
The Celtics seem to be missing a piece all these years, and Jarrett Allen could prove to be the answer to their championship conundrum.
Cavs Pair Evan Mobley With Al Horford
For Piercey, the main reason why the Cavs do this deal is because he believes Jarrett Allen is a poor fit alongside Evan Mobley. It’s the latter who Cleveland seems more inclined to keep for the years to come, and pairing him with a tested veteran like Al Horford will not only be crucial in his development, but it should also allow Mobley to play more freely without Allen “holding him back.”
Sam Hauser and Payton Pritchard could also prove valuable for the Cavs, giving them a couple of useful rotation players. However, it’s the first-round pick for the 2025 NBA Draft that’s going to be the big catch for Cleveland in this deal.
