Casey Hayward’s NFL Career

Casey Hayward was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons in Green Bay and played in 51 games, starting 20 of them. He recorded nine interceptions, 34 passes defended and a touchdown as a Packer. He was not re-signed by the team in free agency and signed with the Chargers.
Casey Hayward spent five years as a Charger and established himself as one of the best corners in the league. He was a Second Team All-Pro twice and was selected for two Pro Bowls. In 75 starts for the Chargers, he recorded 14 interceptions, 66 passes defended and a touchdown. He would spend a year with the Las Vegas Raiders, starting every game, and a year with the Falcons, where he only appeared in 6 games.
Is There Potential for a Reunion With the Packers
When Casey Hayward left Green Bay many fans were upset since he was a big part of the secondary. The decision looked even worse when Hayward went on to be an All-Pro caliber player for the Chargers. Hayward never showed any resentment towards the Packers and is now a free agent.
Hayward is no longer the player he was when he joined the Chargers. However, he could still be an asset in the secondary as the rotational corner. The Packers’ secondary was hammered with injuries last year and a guy like Hayward could fill in nicely if it was the same case this year. Hayward is 33 years old and coming off of a season-ending shoulder injury. It’s unlikely Green Bay signs him unless the price tag is of their liking.
