Cam Newton: “I Saw myself more valuable than Aaron Rodgers”

It appears that Cam Newton is back but, not on the football field. Cam Newton has never lacked confidence, that is for sure. He made sure the world was aware of that confidence with his latest comments.

While he appeared on “The Pivot Podcast” this week, Newton made some very bold statements. These statements are getting a lot of airplay for how outlandish they are. First, he claimed there aren’t 32 NFL Quarterbacks better than him. Second he claimed to be more valuable than Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers because of socioeconomic advantages he has. Newton is entitled to his opinion but he approaches the matter as if it isn’t completely subjective.

Newton: "I'm not going to conform to nothing."

"I saw myself more valuable than a Tom Brady, I saw myself more valuable than an Aaron Rodgers, than a Peyton Manning."

"Because I can go into their community but they can never go to my community."pic.twitter.com/PZbXHAovqD

“There’s not 32 guys better than me. On my soul, on my soul, on my soul,” Newton said alongside ESPN’s Ryan Clark and former NFL players Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor. “At the end of the day, compare apples to apples, and oranges to oranges, certain situations for certain situations, and if you think I couldn’t be on somebody’s team right now, you’re a damn fool.”

After his first point, he then went on to say he is more valuable than some of the best quarterbacks to have ever stepped on the field. Guys that will be immortalized in the Football Hall of Fame for eternity.

“I saw myself more valuable than a Tom Brady, I saw myself more valuable than an Aaron Rodgers, than a Peyton Manning. Because I can go into their community but they can never go to my community.”

I understand the point Cam was trying to make in how his impact on the game extended deep into his community. Possibly deeper than those of the others listed. It felt a bit shoehorned after getting slam dunked on by Crowder saying he isn’t a top 32 quarterback on the planet. Crowder’s abrupt honesty was worthy of a chuckle.
