Bucks rebuffed in trade inquiry regarding Suns’ former No. 2 overall pick

The Milwaukee Bucks reportedly put in a call regarding Phoenix Suns guard Jalen Green, per ClutchPoints insider Brett Siegel. The Suns expressed no interest. If the Bucks want to add scoring help, they’ll have to do so another way. And that’s just as well.

Suns say no on Green, Bucks better off looking elsewhere as is

Suns owner Matt Ishbia tweeted a similar statement on Dillon Brooks’ availability. “Don’t bother calling,” he said. “Suns aren’t interested. Dillon’s not going anywhere.”

Apparently they’ve taken a similar stance on Green, the less desirable of the two players, particularly the wing-starved Bucks. With Kevin Porter Jr. and Ryan Rollins enjoying breakout seasons in the backcourt, the roster doesn’t really need a player in Green’s mold. They need size and playmaking at the wing, not another guard.

But they’re open to trying anything it seems. Green played all of two games this season before going out injured, and he hasn’t returned since. He’s making $33.5 in 2025-26, $36.3M next year, and has a 2027-28 player option for $36M flat.

To acquire Green, the Bucks could send out Kyle Kuzma and Bobby Portis, thereby sacrificing their best wing defender and a valuable sixth man. Giving up both Kuzma and Portis for Green would leave them worse off, not better.

On a roster that could actually use him, the fifth-year Suns guard does have an intriguing skillset as a scorer. In four seasons with the Rockets Green averaged 20.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. The former second overall pick may still have untapped potential as a playmaker. To become a star, however, his efficiency would have to improve substantially. Green owns career shooting splits of 42.2/34.2/79.8. He also has room to grow defensively.

Phoenix acquired Green as part of the Kevin Durant trade with Houston last offseason. If Green changes teams again before this season is up, which the team’s stance makes unlikely, in any case it likely won’t be with the Bucks.
