The Milwaukee Bucks have welcomed another Antetokounmpo to the roster, but that doesn’t guarantee Giannis Antetokounmpo will stay in town. The team signed his youngest brother, Alex Antetokounmpo, to a two-way contract on Monday, though ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the move is unlikely to influence the two-time MVP’s long-term decision with the franchise.

“The Bucks are clearly doing everything they can to make Giannis feel as comfortable as possible and as accommodated as possible. This is clearly a move that they’re doing, leaving no stone unturned in that regard, by signing Alex,” the NBA insider remarked during his appearance on ESPN’s NBA Today.

Right now, the Bucks are doing everything they can to keep Giannis Antetokounmpo comfortable in Milwaukee. After bringing back his older brother Thanasis on a one-year deal, the team also signed his younger brother Alex to a two-way contract, marking the first time in NBA history that three brothers will share the same roster.

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with Milwaukee still up in the air

“But from Giannis’s point of view, I’m told that these moves are isolated from him and his decisions, and my understanding is he will make his ultimate decision on his future, whatever that may be, as he has one year left on his contract after this season. And that will be based on the team’s play. And to that end, the first quarter of this NBA season is going to be critical to see just how good or where the Bucks stand in the NBA, in the Eastern Conference this season,” Charania continued.

Alex, who has spent the past five years trying to establish himself as a pro, previously played for the Bucks’ G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd, from 2022 to 2024 after a stint with the Raptors 905, Toronto’s G League team. Over 65 games across three seasons, he started eight times and averaged 5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per contest.

Meanwhile, Thanasis missed the entire 2024-25 season after tearing his Achilles but secured a new deal with the Bucks for the coming campaign. Milwaukee continues to pull out all the stops to keep Giannis in town, though uncertainty still surrounds what the next trade window or offseason could bring in the ongoing Bucks-Giannis sage.
