As Milwaukee begins experiencing sub-zero wind chill temperatures in the thick of January, Bucks shooting guard Khris Middleton is heating up, too.
Middleton’s game averages are on the rise
The Bucks have had an up-and-down month (4-6 in their first 10 games) so far. Despite this, Khris “Khash Money” Middleton has been running up the box score in multiple facets.
After failing to eclipse 20.3 ppg in any month from October to January, Middleton is averaging a staggering 23.2 points per contest in nine games.
While scoring more is always optimal for a starting shooting guard, Middleton’s recent balloon in stats has gone beyond that.
The 10-year veteran out of Texas A&M has averaged more in the following categories this month than in any other month this season.
- rebounds (6.4)
- assists (6.0)
- blocks (0.8)
- field goals made (7.6)
- three-pointers made (2.9)
Middleton is also shooting the ball at a much higher rate in January than he has all year. The Bucks’ leader in all-time three-pointers is shooting 47.9% from the field, 44.1% from beyond the arc, and 94% from the charity stripe.
Hitting a season-high and a milestone
After coming short of 30 points during his first 32 games, Middleton popped off with a 34 point performance in the Bucks’ 121-114 loss against the Hawks on Monday.
Just two days later, during the Bucks’ 126-114 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, Middleton eclipsed a career milestone. He grabbed his 3,000th career rebound off of the glass in a packed house at Fiserv Forum.
This achievement came just two months after Middleton scored his 10,000th point as a Buck in the team’s 120-109 win over the Denver Nuggets on November 26.
A look at the matchups ahead
The Bucks will wrap up this week with home games against the Chicago Bulls on Friday and the Sacramento Kings on Saturday.
Middleton averaged 18 points, five rebounds, and six assists in two contests against the Bulls last season. The two-time All-Star also averaged 24 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists against the Kings last season.
Middleton will look to capitalize against these opposing backcourts to continue his red-hot January run.
