AJ Green may have taken the spotlight on Wednesday for the Milwaukee Bucks in win against the San Antonio Spurs but it was Gary Trent Jr. who shot the lights out in the second half, leaving his teammate Giannis Antetokounmpo inspired.
Trent Jr. was signed at the start of the season from the Toronto Raptors as the new designated shooter of the team and he is very much fulfilling that role.
Against the Spurs, the 25-year-old shooting guard went five out of five on the field, four out of four from the three point line.
People saw how brilliant and efficient he can be but for Antetokounmpo, it is what he does when the cameras are out that stands out.
Bucks courtside reporter Melanie Ricks caught up with the Greek Freak after the game and was asked about the impact made by his sweet shooting teammate.
Gary Trent, Jr. shot a perfect 5-5 from the field and still got shots up after the win.
Giannis spoke about GT’s work ethic, saying it’s not about what he saw from him tonight; it’s what he saw from GT yesterday on his day off and the work he consistently has put in all season. pic.twitter.com/JoJnG9IDIw

“Giannis spoke about GT’s work ethic, saying it’s not about what he saw from him tonight; it’s what he saw from GT yesterday on his day off and the work he consistently has put in all season,” Ricks wrote on X.
Giannis himself was also sensational in the game and his passing game became useful as Trent Jr. along with AJ Green and Brook Lopez made sure to pay his effort on the dimes.
Antetokounmpo finished the game with 25 points, 16 rebounds, and 8 assists.
Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t the only one impressed with Gary Trent Jr.
Trent Jr. is has been playing splendid this year for the Bucks.
Before Antetokounmpo’s praise, his coach Doc Rivers raved about him but this time, about the facet of his game that is hardly seen on the stat-sheet.
To Rivers, Trent Jr. is more than just a 3-point shooter.
“You know, it’s funny, there’s certain stats that just always carry,” Rivers said after his team’s 19-point comeback win against the Indiana Pacers before the end of 2024.
You know, rebounds, if you get rebounds, you always are a good rebound. If you’re a guy to get deflections, you’re always a guy to get deflections, and I bet he had his hands on 10 balls today,” Rivers said post game.
