Bucks fans will have to wait to see Hugo Besson play in the good land green. The 21-year-old will suit up with Metropolitans 92 alongside famed draft-prospect Victor Wembanyama next season. The French club looks primed to compete for a National Championship after signing Besson through the 2022-2023 season.
Who Is Hugo Besson?
Besson is a 6’5 combo-guard with high shooting potential and years of professional experience overseas. The French guard averaged 13.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 25 games with the New Zealand Breakers last season, before stepping away from the team to prepare for the 2022 NBA draft. There, Besson would be selected 58th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks. He had this to tell reporters when asked about what he’d bring to the table.
“I think my ability to score is very good. I think I have to improve my body, for sure, my defense.”
An honest assessment from the young guard. As Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer put it, Besson “projects as a good shooter thanks to soft touch from the line and midrange. Though…offenses will target him as a defender.” With the late selection of Besson and the signing of AJ Green after the draft, it’s safe to say the Bucks are looking to add some much-needed scoring depth. With Besson playing overseas and Green likely to spend most of next season in the G-League, it’ll be interesting to see how each player develops in their respective leagues.
Fans caught a glimpse of what the Hugo Besson Bucks would look like in this years Las Vegas Summer League. Despite posting a modest 2.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per game, Besson still found ways to showcase his confidence as a shooter and ballhandler. His best performance came in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Besson added 6 points and 5 rebounds to help secure the win.
