Bucks denied sharpshooting boost in injury report for Sunday vs Brooklyn

The Bucks will play a third straight game without sharpshooter AJ Green, the team indicated in Sunday’s injury report for Milwaukee’s game in Brooklyn. He has been sidelined since injuring his shoulder against the 76ers two Fridays ago, on December 5. His absence means the Bucks will once again seek a substitute for Green’s volume beyond the 3-point line, an integral element of the offense with Green on the floor.

Bucks will look to continue hot streak from distance as top marksman remains sidelined

Fortunately, the team didn’t notice Green’s absence Thursday versus Boston thanks to eruptions from Kyle Kuzma and Bobby Portis. Kuzma provided 31 points on 13-17 from the floor (his career-high as a Buck), while Portis went 11-13 overall and 5-6 on threes.

Gary Trent Jr. also mitigated the loss of Green by going 3-6 from deep for 13 points.

In fact the Bucks have 29 made threes in the two games Green has missed, making them at a 43% clip. They’ll have to hope that continues against the Nets. Coming off a victory over the Celtics, Milwaukee is seeking consecutive wins for the first time since October 28 and 30.

Needless to say, the team would prefer to have Green back sooner rather than later. In a solid improvement over last year’s numbers, Green is averaging 11.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in the 2025-26 season. On nearly seven attempts per game he is converting triples at a scorching 48.5% rate. He leads the team in makes (3.1 per game), attempts (6.8), and percentage (excluding Kevin Porter Jr., who has only played seven games).

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Taurean Prince are also unavailable for Sunday’s game, as to be expected. The 11-15 Bucks come in as just 1.5-point favorites over 6-18 Brooklyn. Milwaukee is 3-8 on the road this season, while the Nets are just 2-10 at home.

The teams’ previous meeting ended in a 116-99 Bucks victory at the Fiserv Forum.
