The Milwaukee Bucks are surging, going 7-1 in their last eight to get to .500 after starting the season at 2-8. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard produce the numbers they are supposed but many thought that the young guys like AJ Green and Andre Jackson Jr. should get credit, too, for this turn around.
The latter is even leaving Lillard mesmerized.
The 25-year-old guard is turning into a key rotation guy this season due to his reliable three-point shooting. It should be noted, too, that his defense is leaving opponents’ guards at a panic.
In their latest win against the Miami Heat, he went 3-of-7 from beyond the arc while guarding Tyler Herro and Jimmy Butler.
Lillard himself is impressed with Green. Even calling him a sniper.
“Sniper, I say that all the time,” Lillard said about Green.
Dame Time is also as impressed with Green’s practice routine and hardwork to get to where he is now.
If you watch AJ pre-game, if you watch him before practice, he’s spinning the ball out to himself, running full speed catching it and raising up quick with his momentum, off the dribble, off the catch, spinning out, curling out, every spot on the floor. I literally sit in the chair on the sideline before practice and watch him do it every day.
Green went undrafted in 2022 and alternated his time between the Bucks and the Wisconsin Herd.
He is currently averaging 7.9 ppg, higher than his 4ppg last season.
Green leaves Damian Lillard impressed on 3 points, Giannis on defense
Lillard was left amazed by Green’s 3-point sniping. Giannis Antetokounmpo, on the other hand, is recognizing his defense.
The 2020 Defensive Player of the Year thinks his teammate is a smart player when it comes to staying in front of his assignment. He said four days ago:
He’s staying down on pump fakes. He’s using his body very smart. I think two years ago, he would get himself in foul trouble. He’d use his hands a lot, maybe jump a little bit on the pump fake, get the guy to shoot two easy free throws. But now, he’s just solid.
Antetokounmpo is more effective with a 3-and-D guy, which he found in PJ Tucker during their title run. He also had someone of Green’s type in Wesley Matthews in 2022.
