Packers GM Brian Gutekunst met with the media today and talked a lot about his plans for the roster. One of the biggest questions, outside of the QB position, of course, is what the Packers will do with Aaron Jones. When asked, Brian Gutekunst said that he plans on Aaron Jones being back next year.

The Packers expect to have Aaron Jones back next season, Brian Gutekunst says.

Brian Gutekunst Expects Aaron Jones To Be A Packer

When Aaron Jones signed his four-year deal a couple of years ago, many thought it would be a two-year deal. This led to many questions following the end of the season about what would actually happen. Would they cut Jones to save cap space and go with AJ Dillon as the lead back? Or would they try and keep Jones to keep the two-headed backfield going? It seems Gutekunst is going to keep Jones in Green Bay. This is great to hear as Jones shows no signs of slowing down his production.

How Will They Make The Money Work?

This seems likely to be a contract restructuring. Jones has expressed his desire to stay in Green Bay and may be open to restructuring to make it happen. If not, the Packers will take a little bit of a cap hit. Ultimately, every Packers’ decision will revolve around whether Aaron Rodgers is back next season. Rodgers has said that he will not hold the team hostage but the cap situation is much different if he is not there next season.

It was great to hear that Gutekunst wants Aaron Jones back. The on-field production is great but Jones is also very active in the community. The city of Green Bay would be losing a lot if Jones was no longer on the team. Hopefully, they can work something out and Jones will have another stellar season with the Packers.
