Brewers, Woodruff Look to Avoid Sweep vs. Phillies

After taking three out of four games from the defending World Series Champions, the Brewers hit the road full of confidence.  Unfortunately, the injury bug continued to hit the Brewers and their bats failed to produce hits with runners in scoring position.  As a result, Milwaukee has lost three straight to the Philadelphia Phillies, and four straight overall.  Despite the losing streak, the Brewers stand at 17-14 and are only one game behind the Cardinals for first place in the division.

    Brewers’ Staring Pitcher: Brandon Woodruff

If there was ever a pitcher on the Brewers’ staff to end a winning streak, it would be Brandon Woodruff.  With Corbin Burnes sidelined, Woodruff has shone as the team’s only ace.  Since his “poor” Opening Day performance, Woody has delivered five straight quality starts.  He is currently 2-0 with 1.80 ERA.  Hopefully Brewers’ hitters can give him some rare run support today.

Current Phillies batters have faced Woodruff 49 times combined in their careers.  They have hit a combined three home runs, but hold a woeful .137 average against him.

    Phillies’ Starting Pitcher: Zack Wheeler

The Phillies will look to finish the sweep of Milwaukee by sending Zack Wheeler to the mound.  Wheeler is 2-2 on the season with a 3.49 ERA.  In five career starts against the Brewers, he is 1-1 with a 2.90 ERA.

Kolten Wong has three hits against Wheeler in five career at bats against him.  Lorenzo Cain, too, has hit Wheeler well to the tune of a .333 average.  Travis Shaw, however, is hitless against Wheeler in eight at bats.
