It was an exciting start to the week in Milwaukee as the Brewers battled the Astros in a three-game series. Here is a complete recap of the series and what to expect next from the Brew Crew.
Brewers vs. Astros Game One:
Final Score: 12-2 Astros
Corbin Burnes was on the bump against Cristian Javier. Unfortunately for the Brewers, Burnes was the loser of this matchup. The former Cy Young winner tossed five innings and allowed five runs.
To go along with that, Javier kept the Brewers’ offense quiet. For the six innings he was on the bump, the Milwaukee mustered just three hits and a Rowdy Tellez home run. Milwaukee did muster one more run in the seventh inning off Seth Martinez. Tyrone Taylor had an RBI double, but that was it. Along with that, the bullpen did not make up for the poor start from Burnes. The bullpen gave up an additional seven runs in their three innings. The only scoreless innings came from Jake Cousins and position player Mike Brosseau.
Brewers vs. Astros Game Two:
Final Score: 6-0 Brewers
Colin Rea toed the slab against J.P. France. Rea had arguably his best start of the year. The right-hander tossed five and a third shutout innings before passing things to the bullpen.
Milwaukee did not fail to provide Rea with solid run support. Joey Wiemer got the party started with a solo home run in the third inning, and Owen Miller scored off an error the following inning to give Milwaukee an early lead. After that, the Brewers were held off the board until the eighth inning when Brian Anderson knocked a two-run double, and Owen Miller clubbed his third home run of the season to give the Brewers some much-needed insurance. Then Bryse Wilson came in and finished off the final inning.
Brewers vs. Astros Game Three:
Final Score: 4-0 Brewers
Adrian Houser got the ball against Brandon Bielak in the series finale. After tossing six shutout innings in his previous start, Houser was looking to follow that up with another solid start and did that to the tune of five and third shutout innings.
The sinker-baller was given some solid run support to accompany the strong outing. Willy Adames kicked it off with a two-run shot in the first inning. After that, the Brewers remained quiet until the seventh inning, when they got a pair of solo home runs from Miller and Anderson. A clean ninth inning from Hoby Milner ended the game.
Takeaways:
Overall this was a solid series from Milwaukee. After coming off a rough road trip, the Brewers took two of three games from the Astros. The pitching was phenomenal in the final two games of the series, and Owen Miller’s hot streak led the Brewers’ offense. Let’s hope Milwaukee can take this momentum into their next series against the Giants.
