It was an exciting start to the week as the Milwaukee Brewers took on the Colorado Rockies. Here is a complete recap of the series and what to expect next from the Brew Crew.
Brewers vs. Rockies Game One:
Final Score: 2-3 Rockies
Freddy Peralta got the ball in game one and had an outstanding start. The right-hander scattered two earned runs over six innings and struck out 10 batters.
Offensively the Brewers were only able to notch two runs. Rowdy Tellez had an RBI double and William Contreras drove in an additional run on a groundout. The game was tied 2-2 until the bottom of the eighth inning when Peter Strzelecki came in and allowed the winning run for the Rockies.
Brewers vs Rockies Game Two:
Final Score: 1-7 Rockies
Eric Lauer was on the bump for game two. The left-hander went four and two-thirds of an inning and allowed four unearned runs.
Offensively the Brewers once again could not seem to get much going. They only mustered one run, a Tyrone Taylor sac fly. Aside from the poor offense, the bullpen was disappointing as well. Hoby Milner and Jake Cousins gave up an additional three runs.
Brewers vs Rockies Game Three:
Final Score: 6-9 Rockies
Wade Miley got the start in game three and turned in another quality start. The Southpaw was elite for six innings. He went into the seventh inning with no runs allowed before getting pegged with three earned runs. His finishing line shows six innings of three-run ball but he was much better than that.
Offensively the Brewers finally got some runs across. Christian Yelich and Tellez got it started with home runs in the first inning. The Brewers then stayed quiet until the fifth inning when Tyrone Taylor hit his first home run of the season in his third game back from the IL. The very next inning Victor Caratini had an RBI single to make it 4-0 Brewers.
The game was looking good until the seventh inning. Wade Miley got hit around and Joel Payamps allowed the Rockies to tie the game before finishing the inning. A two-run single allowed by Peter Strzelecki gave the Rockies the lead. There were more runs scored by each side but they didn’t matter much as the Rockies still ended up with the win.
Overall this was obviously not a good series for the Brewers. The offense failed to get anything going in the first two games despite playing at Coors Field which is a very hitter-friendly ballpark. Let’s hope the Brewers can solve their problems offensively before their next series.
